Now we’re finally shaking off winter and embracing Spring, it’s a good time to release limiting beliefs and plant seeds of positivity and happiness.
Here are three ideas to release toxic emotions that may be blocking you from creating your best self ever.
1. Breathe. We often underestimate the importance of breath for calming the mind and balancing our emotions. When we are stressed or otherwise upset, we frequently hold our breath. This prevents us from releasing painful emotions and making space for uplifting feelings and experiences.
Try the following to reconnect deeply with your emotions in order to release them. Close your eyes. Allow your awareness to descend deep inside your body all the way to your hips. As you inhale, imagine filling your entire body with lovely, cleansing white light. As you exhale, see yourself putting down a pile of stones that represent feelings like sadness, fear, jealousy, anger, and insecurity. Notice how light your body feels. With each inhalation, keep breathing in the healing light and with each exhalation feel where there is tension in your body and set down the stones of toxic emotions. After repeating this for a few minutes, see yourself fully recharged and buoyant. Look at your pile of stones, thank them for having made you stronger and walk away from them into the light. Slowly open your eyes and return to your familiar environment with renewed energy and joy.
2. Clean. It may seem hard to see the connection between emotional detox and cleaning, but as our living space usually mirrors our state of mind, creating harmony in our physical environment often translates into improved clarity and peace of mind.
As you clean, pay special attention to the corners of your home which are often neglected areas where dust and stale energy tend to accumulate. Focus on one emotion you would like to release and write it down on a piece of paper: “I now give myself permission to release…” and fill in the name of the emotion you want to release. Then burn the slip of paper and so it is.
3. Dance. Dancing allows us to connect to the pure joy of being. Put on your favourite music, and with your feet firmly rooted to the floor, visualize your breath flowing through every fiber of your being as you dance to the music. Feel alive!
